Biographical Information

Combining a luscious silvery tone with exceptional artistry, American soprano Lucretia Fleury is especially known for her ability to deliver effortless coloratura runs and to float shimmering Straussian tones at the top of the soprano range. Her roles span the light lyric and lyric coloratura soprano repertoire, and her engaging stage presence brings a unique charm and believability to her onstage characters. Exceptional musicianship enables Ms. Fleury to tackle the most difficult of roles, and she enjoys performing contemporary as well as traditional operatic and concert repertoire.

Ms. Fleury recently scored successes as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with the Heights Players in Brooklyn, NY, and as Frasquita in Carmen with both Opera Company Brooklyn and Amici Opera. Over the last year she has also performed as Monica in Willamette Concert Opera’s The Medium, Niece in One World Symphony’s Peter Grimes, and Tebaldo in Amici Opera’s Don Carlo. She is currently on the roster with Enterprise Opera in Providence, Rhode Island, and looks forward to performing a role there in the near future. Last year Ms. Fleury was a member of th Opera Company Brooklyn Resident Artist Program, where she was engaged for several performances over the course of the season. Upcoming engagements include Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier and Beatrice di Tenda (title role). Past roles performed include Gilda in Rigoletto, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Jouvenot in Adrianna Lecouvreur, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Virtù in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and Emily in Toch’s Edgar and Emily. Ms. Fleury has appeared both nationally and internationally with companies such as Opera Company Brooklyn, One World Symphony, Willamette Concert Opera, Astoria Music Festival, Opera for the Young, Summit City Opera, and La Vetrina dell’Opera in Rome. Her extensive concert performances include Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Rutter’s Requiem, and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio at a variety of venues across the United States.

As a recitalist, Ms. Fleury has presented programs ranging from the works of baroque composers such as Purcell and Scarlatti to premieres of new works by contemporary composers. She recently recorded an album of songs by University of Michigan composers for the Block M Record label.The album includes premiere recordings of works by lesser known composers Albert Stanley and Ross Lee Finney, as well as works of contemporary composers Logan Skelton and William Bolcom. Her February 2007 recital which included works of Clara Schumann and Vincenzo Bellini aired late last year on the cable program Crescendo!.

In 2006 Ms. Fleury completed her doctoral degree in music performance at the University of Michigan, where she studied with legendary soprano Shirley Verrett.  Her undergraduate and master’s degrees were completed at the University of Washington and Ball State University, respectively. She has completed additional training that includes participation in the International Vocal Arts Institute and actor’s training at the Wesley Balk Institute. Ms. Fleury has an affinity for languages, and is fluent in Italian as well as competent in French and German. She is an accomplished pedagogue and enjoys teaching when her schedule permits. Her hobbies include yoga, ballroom dancing, and martial arts. When not in New York Ms. Fleury enjoys spending time with her family in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
